That is astonishing.
Usually, one develops the new website while leaving the old one in place. Then, when the new one is ready, it is swapped in for the old one, generally at the hour of least traffic.
I cannot imagine why the old one had to be taken down if the new one wasn't ready
The USNO website has been suffering from many outages lately, some brief, some lasting hours. Now they have decided to update the site so, astonishingly, they're going offline for six months. See below, screen cap from their website tonight.
