The Naval Observatory held a wonderful (and rare) openhouse on Saturday. I got there at 3pm and stayed several hours. After my hinting, a librarian very kindly got their origial Bowditch out of the vault and drew quite a crowd. The 26", which includes the lens from the original observatory, was open (and still in active use.) They claim the oldest still in active scientific use. (Had a CCD camera hung on the back to study double star motions. ((For navigation purposes of course.)) ) Did any other list members attend? www.columbia.edu/acis/history/navalobservatory.html www.columbia.edu/acis/history/tableprinter.html --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
