And G'day to you Kermit,
Yes this mythical adventure must go on in search of a southern circumpolar star. Before this can be done someone will have to collect the USCG cadets strewn all about Bora Bora. This task will require drawing lots naturally ;-) For the next destination will be the land of Oz. Brisbane to be exact. It is said that an infinite amount of beer and cheer resides there :) A great circle course is laid down and at latitude 25* S and longitude 179* E a morning twilight round is made on 1 October 2013 between 0500 and 0512 zone time (1700 UT 9/30/13).
OK Kermit now you get to pick a star ;-) G
P.S. I will be wagering on Acrux although it is a bit low in the sky.

Good Day Greg,
You should be soon waking up ... therefore you need some reading ! :-)
At 10:00 LT, i.e. 20:00 UT, I find the following position :
S 09°41'8 W 152°43'7 with a LOP's dispersion of 0.1 NM (Excellent !)
This result - subject to crosscheck with Peter Hakel (see " http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Group-Project-USCG-student-sample-problems-Couëtte-apr-2013-g23607 " ) - seems within 1 NM from your result.
Best Regards
Kermit
PS : May I suggest that there should be one example with a Southern Declination CIRCUMPOLAR Star with a Local Time somewhere between 180° and 270° ? As I can recall from previous practice (many many moons ago) the heights interpolations from the HO tables require extra care under such situations. This would involve building up one other example ... if you think this idea is OK, I can build it up.
