    The Bendix AN-5851-1 bubble type octant (US Navy MK 5) is an option for navigators with plastic sextants that aren't quite ready to invest in a metal marine sextant. Ebay has many for auction with some going for less than $100. This model of bubble octant has a natural horizon available for conventional observations. The micrometer drum is graduated at 2' intervals but can be visually interpolated by eye to the nearest minute. I have had very good luck accuracy wise using mine as a conventional sextant (+/- 2' moa). Even works on horizontal angles. A large padded camera case is recommended instead the original black for ease of transport.
