If we don't care about the numerical value of the observation, but only the orientation, then this is a wonderful way to discover the features of your sextant

Yes, Brad, looking at something earthly is an idea. This topic has come on me when I recently saw spots on the Sun, I was going to analyse spots' positions on the images to learn the limb rule.
I'll definitely report my "findings".
The scope I use is a 3x non-inverting one.
