Re the chart reproductions shown, would the water depths be in fathoms, feet or meters? Assuming European charts, I would assume meters, but I'm not certain.
Additionalls, news accounts I've heard speak of a "165 long foot gash in the hull", one takes that to mean that there was a tear in the hull 165 feet long.
Re that assumption, I wonder as to how fast the ship might have been traveling, in INSHORE WATERS, to rip it's hull up in such a manner.
