Hi Bill,
I think Bill Morris is currently travelling overseas.
In a MkIXA you can insert two 1.5 V batteries directly in the right handle for night use.
The transformer and chord provided with the sextant were designed to reduce the aircraft power source of 28V DC to 3 V DC which is the necessary voltage to lit up the 2 bulbs. Without completely modifying it you cannot get a 3V DC output from a, say, 220 V AC source.
As for your bubble issue, if you are able to get it desappear altogether, you should be able to reduce its size at will.
If it keeps a too large size when you try to make it smaller and therefore you are not able to make it desappear, then you most likely will have to refill the bubble assembly.
