Frank,
The 0.1' per 5* refraction approximation for refraction between star distances above 45* elevation is accurate enough I think for determining index error. I will be using it from now on.
Can you expand on how star to star distances shift 0.3' each year? I take it that stars opposite the Sun will always be at the mean of this 0.3' cycle.
