Re: Troughton Simms pocket sextant for $85 on eBay

I sent the seller a message asking him to comment on the spelling of the name. He came back that he was selling his late father's collection of instruments, of which this was one. He had noted the 'h' in Troughton, but a scan around the web had seen it spelled both ways. His field was fine arts and so he don't know nutin'.

It may well be that a scan around the web will turn up a number of other fakes which also have an 'h' in Troughton... Too, can you think of another instance where a company spells or spelled its own name in different ways?

And, the screws do look mighty bright....

If I were you, I would pass on this one if you are wanting an authentic box sextant. They come up on ebay often enough at a very similar price.

I missed a few responses........what was the final consensus?
    Fake or authentic?

    Thanks Mike
