It has a metal knob which has the words" Turn to increase bubble". Hold the sextant with the knob pointing down, and turn the knob back and forth many times to create the bubble. If no bubble forms, the fluid has leaked out. If you do not have a metal knob to turn, then you do not have a bubble chamber, and there is pendlulous mirror with crosshairs instead. Unfortunately this requires 12 volt electrical power to illuminate for day or night. Ken Gebhart
