Alan,
As I recall the sextant was damaged in transit home from a long assignment of 8 months. I don't think it occurred to me to make a claim, I was just happy to be back among the living! I did take it to where a purchased it, a prestigious supplier of nautical equipment, in New York City. They were unable to supply a replacement shade and instead supplied a different density and color. I am thinking of taking it to Captain’s in Seattle. It probably deserves some service 30 years after purchase.
