I'm sure the air and water temps were available, probably the wind, too.   So, if there was little wind, very cold water temps and relatively warm air temps, you can get pretty wild effects. I swore someone did an analysis of this recently.

    Hello:

After seeing Marcel's photos, I just remembered there an interesting recent TV show . The show/producer discussed and explained the circumstances regarding the "second" nearby ship that did not respond to Titanic. The show claimed that the starlit night was very unusual and the " lights " the second ship saw (and thought were stars) were really Titanic in the process of sinking. There were some great optical scenes in the program showing refraction. It seemed to make sense to me....but what do I know. I wonder if that information was available in the hearings?
