There is also a time-tested device called sandglass:-) As I understand sandglasses was used on the ships together with a log to measure the speed. (And to measure the time in general, in Columbus times). I suppose a sandglass has at least the same precision as a crude pendulum discussed above. Alex. On Mon, 18 Jul 2005, Henry C.
