Hello:
This was an excellent problem because it forced me
to carefully reread John Karl's book section - "St. Hilaire without
a Sextant".
I used a calculator (also made me careful
with signs) . Even with my 1 minute mistake in reading table A4 I had
an answer 4NM east of Spencer Beach County Park. Good enough
!
The time sight equation cosine LHA =
......... is really quite powerful.
Now the trick is really to get the exact time
that the apparent shimmering sun goes below the horizon. Not so easy or
exact.
Thanks Doug
Bruce

Indeed. I was standing on the beach at Spencer Beach County Park in Kawaihae. :)
Sent from my iPhoneMarcel,
If the given latitude is correct then the intersection on the western shore is at 155* 49.5' W (Kawaihae). A place with some history.
