Can't comment on the worth of the article in the Guardian but I did, several years ago, attempt to read Steven Hawking's book, "A Brief History of Time" which purported to simplify quantum mechanics for the proletarian rabble like me. Only problem is, halfway through the book, I began to feel REALLY stupid because he lost me completely. So much for simplification.
