    One needs to consider the intended audience when reading Bowditch.  Exactly 
    one of three of my US Navy destroyer captains (late 1980s to early 1990s) 
    handled a sextant, and only as a hobby.  Sextant navigation was a dead 
    practice then, and was probably not a primary method in the US merchies by 
    the 2002 publication.  And what was the 2002 editor's knowledge and 
    experience in celestial navigation?  Equation of time isn't really needed in 
    a GPS and radio time signal age.  Moral to the story: try to use the Bowditch 
    editions for the eras when the method (sextant is one of many) was in 
    practice.
