Dear Jim, Thank you for your posting. Just for your information, I was taught the "Formula" in 1973 (with a number of "caveats" about its use) and I am assuming that it had been taught long before, not only in France but certainly in the UK and in many countries. Now, it is absolutely very possible that you did not have any prior knowledge of it and that you "reinvented" it on your own because it is certainly not as widely dissemnated as the Azimut-Intercept method. Congratulations then because, as I recall, it does involve a bit of delicate differentiation. This certainly would not be the first time somebody "invents" something already discovered earlier and unknown to him for some good and respectable reason. It has happened a number of times and it will again. Now, you have made my mouth water ... how could I get a copy of your "Navigation Paper" ? Thank you for your Kind Attention and Very Best Regards Antoine Antoine M.
