Antoine requested probability plots showing the probability that the true fix is somewhere inside the individual contours. Attached are two examples, one with a fairly small hat, and one with no hat.
The interesting observation is how little the probabilities are affected by the three LOPs all intersecting at a common point.
(Remember these plots are inferences based on all the knowledge that a navigator has at the time of the three sights: the location of these three observed LOPs, and their known lateral standard deviation.)
