I can see in the Villarceau article (without any knowledge of French) that he obtains the construction of the symmedian point that Prince mentions. But does he show that it minimizes the sum of the squared distances to the three sides?
As I pointed out, it's obvious from the form of P(x,y) for the three LOPs with normally distributed random error, that this point is located at he max probability. I agree with Herbert that it's a mystery why this has been misrepresented since 1877 with all kinds of other triangle centers.
