    Herbert! Glad you showed up on this one. I was literally just typing an email to you to see if you could contribute on this topic. :) For those of you missed it, Herbert did a very fine presentation on this very topic and his construction for finding the point during the Navigation Weekend at Mystic Seaport in 2008.

    The section in question is, I think, on page 38 of Villarceau which you can view online here: http://books.google.com/books?id=14NIAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA38
    Sure enough, there's a nice little "cocked hat" triangle, and the derivation of the most probable point. It's in French, but even for those of you don't read French, it's not hard to follow what he's doing there.

    By the way, I DO sympathize with anyone who thinks this topic has been beaten to death. But, though you may find it hard to believe, I really think that there is actual progress here as more and more people wrap their heads around the meaning of all of this.
