To my knowledge the bubble itself is not lit in the Mark V with an electrical bulb but with some radioactive paint. This paint lighting power might have fainted with time, and I don't think there is anything that can be done easily about that.

Hi BH, regarding MK 5 lighting maybe dimmer rheostat is faulty and/or batteries are low? If you knew the resistance Ohm range you can hook up an Ohm meter to make sure you were getting the correct specs. Also make sure your contact surfaces are not corroded. HTH. Keep me informed. Isn't that thing a monstrosity? Mine states that it was used in a B-29 and it probably takes a plane of that size to carry it!

    Mike:

Thanks for working out the site.  I think I am going to learn to have to toss the really bad sites, but at this time of year, I'm just happy to see the stars.  It's odd as I can often get repeatable lops within  a mile or two of my Ap for one star, and then I will shoot one over and over and be 10-15 miles away. More practice needed!  The Mark V is perfect, and I figured out the bubble. Now I just need some stars.

Has anyone ever been able to improve the dim bubble lighting on the Mark V?

    Bruce
