Hello everyone,
I recently bought from E-bay a Tamaya NC2 celestial navigation calculator, manufactured in 1976 by Sharp.
It is in excellent condition; it comes in a wooden case, and I was able to download the manual online.
It does not have the nautical almanac incorporated, so it requires some manual calculations (with the help of the same calculator and the current almanac) such as going from Hs to Ho and obtaining LHA.
I have been testing it, and it performs the following functions very well:
Celestial lines of position
Most probable position – MPP
Great Circle Sailings
Dead Reckoning, Mercator Sailings
Mid Latitude Sailings
Arc to time conversion
Although there are very good modern calculators and software around (that I also use), I usually do the sight reductions manually by using the nautical almanac and the 249 tables, so the NC2 is a good tool to keep using the nautical almanac and checking the results in the old fashion way.
