I was the guy that had a problem with Hc calc's. Peter Smith sent me some
spreadsheets so I could compare results and see if I could determine my
problem.

I did. My computation of LHA was in error. Once I fixed that things worked
fine.

I think the reason why manual computation and computer computations are
often different by a few minutes is that manual computations must work in
whole degrees of LHA. Computers work in minutes of LHA and give more
accurate results.

If you have a TI89 calculator I could send you the program.

since the Pacific Sail Expo boat show I have been playing with a demo
version of star-pilot.

looks like there is a lunar distance computation in my demo version of
star-pilot.  don't have any lunar sights so haven't tried it.

can't get the sun sight reduction to give reasonable answers, darn it.  a
couple weeks ago someone here mentioned trouble getting other programs to
match their sight reductions.  I think that is par for the course, I never
had any program match my hand reductions - using the printed almanac.

the almanac program's output is off from the printed one by different
amounts at different times - which one do you trust?

and the sight plot has the (western) longitudes going the wrong way - lower
is left, higher is right!  such a basic error, must be user configuration
error (me) right?  can't seem to affect it with any configuration though.

(it snowed in Yosemite Valley last wednesday!  today in Sunnyvale CA it was
80oF+.)
