Most folks don't realize that "supermoon" has only been a topic of conversation for seven years. The expression was coined decades ago by an astrologer who thought he could predict major earthquakes, but this concept was rightly ignored as nonsense. Then space.com published an article about his pseudoscience which, by pure coincidence, came out just a week before the tragic earthquake in Japan. Social media went crazy, and the rest is history.
