    Hello Greg and All:

After looking over the many suggestions, I purchased ( or went to library) and got a couple of them. Started reading......but discovered at a yard sale for $2.00 USD "Masters of the Air " by Donald L. Miller.  It has taken me all summer to finish it. If you are interested in a complete story about  the U.S.  air war against Hitler, I recommend this book.  This author tells openly the pros and cons of the bombing. Its effectiveness in some areas, total failure in others, strategy, politics, and unbelievable courage of these young men. The short comings of the equipment, navigation problems, weather predictions, and just a well rounded historical overview. The losses are just appalling.  Only US and German submariners had higher casualtiy rates. The book describes the transformation of England etc.

Thanks again for suggestions.......now I can restart them.

    Regards

    Bruce

     Bruce,
I've been reading a recent release titled ANTARCTICA by David Day. This might be the summer reading that you are looking for. Some interesting details on Scott, Shackleton, and Amundsen.
