Hi I'm new to the list, been lurking for about 6 mo... AND KNOW NOTHING! I am intrigued by the talk about verniers, as I recently purchased a russian sextant and it had now vernier, but it does have a nice magnifying glass over the arc. I took it to a jeweler friend of mine and had a vernier put on it (he said sheepishly). It seems to work great but I must admit that my magnified judgment about the value is dead on with the vernier. So no real reason to add the vernier, but as a neophyte I thought I needed it. I thought those Russians didn't know what they were doing... But of course it was me who did not know what he was doing!! I suppose much like antiques road show... the sextant was worth $10,000 but is now worth only $0.10 ;-) Tom --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
