    Star CN with DSLR Camera

Taking a round of stars with a DSLR camera is possible. Yesterday evening between civil and nautical twilight an image of Antares (mag 1.0) was successfully taken using settings of ISO 1600, F2, 1/60 sec, raw, 10MP, infinite focus with a prime 50mm fixed lens. To get a useable image for pixel counting it was necessary to adjust exposure, noise, and contrast by iPhoto editing. Sight reduction was performed on two images using a palm program giving 0.7' away and 1.8' toward.

This was my first effort using a 1.0 magnitude star which means that 18 of the 57 navigational stars are bright enough for a DSLR camera that is set to ISO 1600.
