Re: The Star of Bethlehem and Navigation

thanks a lot for your new year wishes on exactly this evening;-) Let me send
you my best wishes too on this very important day.
At first, the idea that the magi could have used the Star of Bethlehem for
navigation did not make any sense to me. But what is "navigation"? or what
_was_ "navigation" in ancient times? I do not know much about this. But I
could imagine that the navigation of a ship depended not only on the stars
and the weather, but maybe also on omens, oracles, or dreams. The magi asked
Herods priests where the Messiah was expected to be born. Is this a form of
navigation? When they departed from Bethlehem, they did not return to Herod
but were instructed in a dream to take a different road. Is this a kind of
navigation? I will try to find out more.
