I did not take my sextant today (despite the day was clear and sunny). At the time of the Equinox I simply sat at the shore watching the sunset.

It is sort of fascinating to be able to tell the direction to the place where the Amazon river meets the Atlantic Ocean, sitting ~halfworld away.

This is exactly how muslims knew the quibla - the direction to Mecca: twice a year the Sun is directly above the Kaaba, they measured the direction of gnomon's shadow at the moment they estimated as LAN in Mecca.

I have a table with dates and times to check the shadow diirection - to know where my favourite Isurumuniya is. :)

    Warm regards,
    Tony
