Alan,
The white Mars plastic eraser is perfect for the job. I would be reluctant to use soap and water on the wood rule and slide. I like the idea of a nylon curser.

Greg:
I think taking the cursor apart would be the very last thing to attempt, K & E Cursor Rot being the problem that is is, or could be. I have never encountered it on any of the slide rules I've purchased. I did note that some sellers mentioned "problems" with the cursor assembly, the problem reading like cursor rot. I had noticed somewhere that some fellow had come up with replacement parts, newly made, I think the top and bottom pieces were nylon, and the hardware parts too. His prices struck me as rather steep, but then it's his time and effort.
Re erasers, I have the remains of an old Steadler-Mars Plastic Creaser, that one used on mylar drawing sheets. I believe this is non-abrasive. Also a new package of White Pearl "100% Latex Free" erasers. They too might be non-abrasive. I expect that the old Pink Pearl erasers are not abrasive free. How about soap and water, as with dish washing liquid and water, very little of either one.
