    Re: Soviet Sextants!

Several people on this list, myself included, have commented favourably on the SNO-T model. Search the Archives under Soviet and Russian....there has been extensive discussion of these sextants.
The photos on the web site are of sextants in very good condition, yet the description talks about sextants in varying condition. I suggest you ask for photos of the actual sextant you are negotiating on, with serial number....and note that the seller expects negotiation. You can get an idea of going prices from Ebay. $290 seems top price for a SNO-T ......I would want a good one for that price. But maybe I have lost track of current prices...and they have increased over recent years.
Watch for a rip-off on freight. When I bought my SNO-T I had it shipped from Poland to Australia for $35....a lot of sellers of soviet sextants want upwards of $100 for freight. Similarily, watch for a rip-off on financial transaction costs.
I don't know anything about the seller, and cannot help you there. I suggest you look for evidence of successful sales. Perhaps you can find him on ebay.
Best of luck, and let us know how you go.

    Subject: Soviet Sextants!

    Hi folks,
Can anyone attest to the quality of these Soviet Sextants and legitimacy of seller? Looks like some good deals( or maybe not!) for folks who are in market for metal sextants. Maybe the saying " If it's too good to be true it probably is" may ring true! Your comments are appreciated and thanks much!
