BTW, to check the pitot log, Mates used the 'beer bottle' method: 1. Make Mate's apprentice drink at least half a case of beer 2. Take apprentice and case of beer to bow 3. Make apprentice throw empty bottles in water (one by one!) 4. Measure time each bottle takes to get from bow to stern 5. Make apprentice calculate average speed 6. Have a good laugh at half-drunk apprentice's expense, while drinking other half of case Those were the days... :-) Rino
