By all means, nobody should ever forget the following admonition regarding the slide rule. No matter it's faults, it's limitations, it does not need batteries or electricity.
As to recovery from the computer crash you mentioned, I've experienced computer problems myself,auto-reformatting is perhaps a better term for what you experienced than "crash", best of luck with recovery efforts. Have you any idea at all as to what might have caused the problem?
