Frank, too cold? have taken sights when temp has been below -25°C
I admi that using gloves makes adjusting sextant more of a chalenge, also the optics tend to get coated in frost if one is not careful (slightest puff of breath... ).
Hardest part is spotting any iregularities on the horizon and sometimes even seeing one in the drifting snow (think creeping vails of fog). I have used art-orizon made from cup of water more than few times to get past that, trick is to catch sun before water freezes (surface distorts and gets fuzzy).
