    At the end of a nice discussion of Silicon Sea problems,
    Peter Fogg writes:

    Oops!  Apply the index error to the sextant reading before
    doing anything else!  Also apply corrections for imprecision
    of the arc, if you have that info.  Then halve the result if
    you were using a reflecting artificial horizon.  Then apply
    corrections for dip and refraction.
