1. The navigator should see the peak of Mauna Loa about 135 miles out. 2. TC = 286. Subtract 1 degree for current. Subtract 11 degrees for compass error. CC = 274 to Mauna Loa. 3. Nearest multiple of 15 deg longitude is 150W, so we are 10 hours behind UT. 4. DR at 140 mile point is 19 24 N 154 32 W. 5. TC = 305. Add 1 degree for current. Subtract 11 degrees for compass error. CC = 295 to pass Cape Kumukahi. 6. Distance from passing Cape Kumukahi to Hilo entry point is 26 miles. 7. Total DR distance from the running fix to Hilo entry point is 177 miles. At 10 knots we should arrive there July 17 about 0100Z, or July 16 1500 ZT. That ignores any current. I used a piece of typing paper to make a plotting sheet. The horizon distance and heading computations were done on an E-6B aeronautical slide rule. The wind side works perfectly well for current; you just mentally divide the speed markings by 10 or 20.
