I like the new problem format with the answers at the bottom. This is much nicer than waiting for "teacher" to post them. And if you goof you catch it right away. Yes, the real world isn't like that, but in the real world you're also more motivated to work the problems! > The sky has been overcast for days. we have been unable to get a sight. > Var 10.0dE Dev 1.0dE. Speed 10.4 Kts. ... > 4) What is the Speed Made Good(SMG) to this DR? > What is the Compass Course(CCMG) this DR? I don't understand why the correct answer is 10.8 kt, not 11.1. The speed used for the DR (which does not include current) is 10.4. The current is .7 kt flowing toward 285. That's just 6 deg off our course, so for practical purposes it should add directly to our speed thru water, shouldn't it? Also, why isn't the correct answer for CCMG identical to the compass course we're been steering? The part I clipped out is the sun line at 2010Z, but it should have nothing to do with the DR. It's crossed with another sun line for a running fix later. -- paulhirose@earthlink.net (Paul Hirose)
