As you noticed, the way the problems are drawn up it's not necessary in order to get the "right answer". That makes it much easier to draw up the sight reduction problems in the first place. From a practical point of view, in the middle of a voyage, on the open ocean, with nothing nearby to find or to avoid, what is 5 or 10 miles? -- Mike Wescott Wescott_Mike@EMC.COM
