Well, that was me. So it's still only one vote! Alex checked Chauvenet, and
apparently side error never leads to any significant real error.

Sounds like fair game to me. I've never seen it mentioned either. I
recently tried the Pleiades for an IC check, and it was distinctly easier
to detect a mis-alignment with a field of stars than with a single
star.
