In retrospective I realised that my question was not completely clear, 
but above answer still does not answer my question: what I would like to 
know is if it was explicitly written down that those 7 observations were 
done using back-staffs.

If so then I would like to know were (original logbooks or 
articles/books that used those logbooks as primary sources), so I can 
refer to it in an article I am currently writing.
