Yes, I've been contemplating Pliny over the weekend. I was camping last night with my son, who had taken 5 years of Latin and was only one year out. When I mentioned my curiosity about Septentrio, he immediately pointed at the big dipper and counted off seven stars in the dipper and mused that the root "sept" might have something to do with it. I felt humbled.
