    I think rotation with the fingers would be too crude. The adjusting
    screw will probably have a pair of cross-holes in the cap into which a
    pin can be inserted as a tommy-bar for very careful adjustment.
    Usually, an object that looks rather like a hatpin, but with a fancy
    brass knob, is supplied, and this has a slight taper so that it gives
    a good fit without wobbles. The brass knob is no more than decoration.
    A suitably chosen twist-drill ought to do the job.
