There are some really good sextants for sale on ebay right now. 7 pages worth. 2 really nice Tamaya models.$750.00 for the MS-733. One that caught my eye was the Aldo Leupold + Sons 1944 Maritime Commission sextant.I wouldn't mind owning that one. If the scope's optics quality are anything like their rifle scope's optics quality that may be a good buy.Mirrors are a little small. Alex, here is the link to one that made me think of you. What kind(make, model)do you think it is? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&catagory=4399&item=37699437&rd =1 We just got back into San Diego yesterday after spending 3 weeks backpacking, horseback riding/packing from Brawley,California to Tucson,Arizona.Took my Astra IIIB(packed on one of the horses as I'm not carrying it) and my Bris along and had a blast taking sights and reducing them for pos and just doing general land navigation (yes we had gps units along). What a trip. I'll post some data from the sights when I have time to sit and write them next week. Alex, the Bris didn't do all that well in the accuracy department.Very poorly as a matter of fact. While useing it along the Colorado River Basin (one can't use it with a AH I found out.I'll explain later) we (more then 1 person tried it so it isn't all personal error) could only get around a 5 mile accuracy. The Astra did well in that department though. That's a tough, rugged piece of equipment. It had to be constantly checked before use though as the horses were not gentle on anything. One check it was out + 17 min of angle from the last time we used it (about 6 hrs before). What a fun trip. Now I have a better understanding of what Thompson,L + C and others accomplished and experianced. Tomorrow we're scheduled to take a group of students out for STCW certifacation so I'll not be able to write any data untill next week earliest.
