Derrick - why wouldn't GPS work very well in some areas as you mention below? regards Russell Derrick wrote......... Carl, Yes, I do teach sextant work for coastal piloting. It is very useful for determining where you are (as you know) in areas where LORAN and/or GPS don't work very well. For example some areas off the Virginia coast line and in the lower Chesapeake Bay.
