The Security Mafioso will likely steal it, oops I should say "confiscate" it as a suspicious item, possibly/likely contraband of some sort.
Let me tell you about how I "lost" a partially used Shick Injector Razor Blade "Magazine" It was on a return trip, as I recall, from New Bern North Carolina to Pittsburgh, PA. I made the grievous mistake of putting the razor blade dispensor in my wash kit, which was in my carry on bag. The "security guy" a TSA person, on inspecting my carry on declared, in a quite loud voice, that my bag contained "contraband". When I inquired as to exactly he was talking about, he held up the blade injector, waving it about like a battle pennant, and declared that it was "contraband". When I replied that I thought it was a razor blade dispenser, which it was when I bought it, he announced that one could remove one of the blades and use it as a weapon. I said something to the effect that were I to declare myself to be a latter day Napoleon, I doubted that the French Army would follow me off to invade Russia. In any event, my razor blades were stolen, which was the way I still view the fiasco. Who knows what might happen to/with your laundry powder, though secreting it in checked luggage, rather than in acarry on might help some.
The young lady you described sounded like something of a gem. Re the transport of a sextant, I had one experience therewith, this on a flight from Maine back to Pittsburgh. Going through security at the airport in Maine, I was carrying the sextant case, the lady security person asked what was in the box. I said a sextant. She asked my to repeat, which I did, while opening the case. When she say the sextant therein, she nodded and told me to continue to my flight.
Have a good trip.
Alan
