Some one recently posted (within the last year) about shooting the sun from a commercial airliner while transatlantic I believe. At the time I remember thinking he was luck not to be assaulted by worried passengers and crew. Perhaps that person will eventually see these posts and comment. Or maybe someone can point use to that post???

Has anyone tried to carry their sextant on board an aircraft since 9/11 and all of the security foolishness that has come to pass since then?Prior to 9/11, I used to visit friends in the US on a regular basis and brought my sextant with me to practice on the water. Even back then, I got a lot of quizzical looks from the security drones but was able to get through OK.I am wondering what the situation is nowadays. I cannot even imagine consigning my sextant to general baggage and would still want to carry it on board with me but I can imagine that it must be a real hassle to get it past the airport screening.Robert
