Just scanning through some posts I didn't read in detail earlier in the month...
Greg, did you try taking a video with your camera attached? You could swing the arc more or less continuously starting with the Sun below the horizon and recording until the Sun is well above the horizon. Then review later to get that exact moment of contact. Maybe? And of course, you can include audio notes like a time check and your own impressions of when it all looks right.
