I am attaching two pictures of this type of sextant. The first is a photo of the actual sextant used by Gago Cotinho when he flew across the Atlantic in 1922. The second is of a production sextant of this type. I am also attaching a photo of the airplane he used on the transatlantic flight . These are all in the naval museum in Lisbon. In Portugal Gago Cotinho is a national hero following in the footsteps of Vasco de Gama. De Gama himself is located in the church nearby. There are many other interesting navigational instruments in this museum and it is well worth a visit. The museum is actually located in Belem which is only a couple of miles from downtown Lisbon.
