    Re: Sextant scopes

    Froggy,

Almost correct. Tamaya still makes theirs, a 4x40 scope. Freiberger
makes theirs, a 4x40 also, but the rising piece (fork) has reversed
topography so that it is not interchangeable with other sextants.
The Celestaire 3.5x40 scope used on Astra, Cassens & Plath and the
final 3 years production of C.Plath sextants is a very good scope.
For the higher power scopes, Cassens & Plath may still have a few
6x30 scopes left of mediocre quality. Freiberger may still offer a
Russian made 8x30 from the old days, but again they will not fit on
other sextants. Tamaya made a nice 7x35 until recently, but they were
very expensive..about $450. They apparently ran out, and are now
supplying a 7x35 at the same price, but of horrible quality. It's
basically unusable. Because there are few, if any, suitable high
power scopes now available, Celestaire is making a 7x35 exact clone
of the earlier Tamaya scope (which Frank mentioned) which will retail
for less than $200. The first run is in production now, and should
    be available in 2 months.
