    Good list.  However, I think it has to have a timeframe associated with
    the various companies.  Some of them are no longer active, others have
    gone through various mergers and changes of owner, etc.
    
    E.g.  Troughton,  Troughton & Simms,  Cooke, Troughton & Simms.
    
    Each operated in a different period.
    
    Obviously this can complicate things, but it does make things more clear
    to those who only know, say 20th c. makers vs those (like me) who are
    more familiar with 18th & 19th c. companies.
    
    This could even be represented as a "family tree".
    
    I think a couple of these companies were both makers and dealers.
    They'd make instruments in one class (sextant) and bring in instruments
    of other classes (octant).
